About the Grand Commandery of New Mexico (USA)
THE GRAND COMMANDERY OF NEW MEXICO, USA
The Grand Commandery of New Mexico was established on June 1st, 2009, by appointment of His Grace Count Mospak, for the purpose of representing the needs of the Order of Saint Anna in the State of New Mexico, USA. His Excellency Vladimir M. Lavenko was selected by His Grace to serve as the first Knight Grand Commander of New Mexico, as well as to assume the roll of Deputy Grand Commander for all of Greece, assisting the Grand Commander (Greece) the Honroable Kostintinos Loukas.
While New Mexico is not known as a very Eastern Orthodox state, being primary populated with those of Roman Catholic faith, New Mexico's Orthodox population is ever growing. There are now Eastern Orthodox Parishes and Missions ranging from the north to the south, as well as several Orthodox Monasteries, Hermitages and Sketes. The parishes, missions, monasteries, hermitages and sketes represent a wide range of ethnic backgrounds and jurisdictions: Greek, Russian, Antiochians, Orthodox Church in America (OCA), and Ukrainians. While these parishes, missions, monasteries, hermitages and sketes may have ties to a specific ethnic or jurisdiction many of their members are American born (with or without these ethnics backgrounds) or converts to Eastern Orthodoxy. Since New Mexico has a high percentage of Latinos you will find many Latino converts in the Eastern Orthodox Churches. New Mexico is a growing state with a divers population, and that diversity can be found in the Eastern Orthodox Parishes, Missions, Monasteries and Sketes that are bringing the good news of Christ in the ancient tradition of the Eastern Orthodox Church to the people of New Mexico
The primary goal of the Grand Commandery of New Mexico is charitable work to assist the neediest of God's Children. The Commandery is very active with several local and international organizations and charities to reach out to those in need. The Commandery has an annual Ukrainian Orphans Christmas Fundraiser to raise funds for the Orphans in Ukraine. To find out more about our charitable contributions and works go to our Charity & Events page.
The Orthodox Order of Saint Anna is always looking for people interesting in serving in the Order or its Militia. If you are interested in finding out more about either the Orthodox Order of St. Anna or its Militia please go to our Contact Us page and send us a message.
